Our Mission: Veterinary Social Work

Veterinary social work is a unique field dedicated to honoring both animal and human needs. Pairing social work with veterinary medicine helps foster a supportive and healthy work environment for veterinary and animal care professionals, pet owners, and animals. As veterinary social workers, we take an oath to use evidence-based practice from a strengths-based perspective to tend to the needs that arise in the relationship between animals and humans.

Bay Area Veterinary Social Work acts as an advocate for veterinary professionals on a micro, mezzo, and macro scale while providing essential support to pet owners. We are experts in mental health, resources, advocacy, and problem solving. We understand that each and every person who brings their animal into a clinic has a story that deserves our attention and focus. Human care - whether it’s a client or staff member - is an important part of veterinary medicine, which is why veterinary social work is such a unique and indispensable service. We cannot have healthy and happy animals if we do not have healthy and happy humans to care for them. Our ultimate goal is to improve the lives of animals and the humans who love them.
